Placemaking Europe is launching a short, hands-on residency to design and help implement a temporary water and climate shelter in a municipality in the Valencia region affected by the 2024 floods.

The project will transform an outdoor public space of around 1,000 m² into a temporary, safe and reversible summer installation combining water play, shade, resting areas, climate comfort and community use. The space is especially intended for children, families and local residents during the hottest months of the year.

We are looking for 3 to 4 residents, either individuals or teams, with experience in one or more of the following fields:

  • temporary public space design, tactical urbanism and light construction;
  • nature-based solutions, landscape design, shade and climate adaptation;
  • art, community engagement and participatory spatial practices;
  • water play, public furniture, scenography, modular structures or accessible outdoor installations.

Selected residents will work with Placemaking Europe, local stakeholders, municipal services and technical partners to develop the concept, join community sessions, adapt the design to local needs, and support the production and installation process.
