Can you share the exact location of the residency?
Not yet. We cannot publicly share the name of the town while the formal arrangements are still being closed. The site is located in the Horta Sud/southern metropolitan area of Valencia, in one of the areas most affected by the DANA floods, and within commuting distance of the city of Valencia.
When will the exact town and site be confirmed?
The exact municipality and site will be confirmed with selected residents once the formal arrangements are closed.
Is there already a detailed timetable?
A detailed timetable will be shared with selected residents. At this stage, applicants should assume that the residency starts on 2 July 2026 and runs intensively throughout July. The first 2 to 3 days will be used to settle in, receive the site and project briefing, meet the team and understand the local context. After that, the place will open immediately as a working site for engagement with local communities, with gradual testing, production and activation continuing until the end of the residency.
How much work is expected during the residency?
The residency should be understood as a flexible full-time commitment during July. It is not based on fixed office hours, but residents should be available for the collective work rhythm, community sessions, technical coordination, production and installation needs. It is not designed to be combined with a regular 9–5 job or substantial parallel work. Small online commitments can usually be accommodated if agreed in advance.
Does the residency end by 31 July?
The main residency period is expected to run until the end of July, broadly until 31 July. Some follow-up, documentation or small adjustments may still be needed afterwards, depending on the installation process.
Would finalising the project by 26 July fit within the residency period?
Yes. Finalising the main project by 26 July falls within the expected four-week working period.
What does “intensive four weeks” mean in practice?
Residents should expect active weekday involvement, with the rhythm depending on the site work, local sessions, technical coordination, production needs and installation process. It is a hands-on residency, not a remote consultancy.
Do residents need to be on site every day?
Residents should be available to work on site and with the team throughout the residency period. The exact daily rhythm will be agreed with the selected group once the work plan is confirmed.
Do residents need to find their own accommodation?
Not necessarily. Placemaking Europe may reimburse accommodation costs, or choose to help find accommodation and pay for it directly. We will try to find a place that allows residents to live and work together, at a reasonable distance from the site. The final arrangement will depend on availability, budget and the needs of the selected team.
Can residents arrange their own working agenda?
There will be some flexibility, but the work rhythm will depend on the team, the site, local stakeholders, technical coordination and production needs. Residents should expect to adapt to the collective schedule rather than work fully independently.
Are residents expected to stay on site during weekends?
Residents are expected to be mostly available throughout the residency period. Some weekends may be free, but others may involve community activities, testing, production or installation needs. Occasional weekend travel may be possible if agreed in advance and if it does not affect the project schedule.
Can residents keep small online commitments during the residency?
Yes, small online commitments can usually be accommodated if they are communicated in advance and do not affect key collective working moments, community sessions or installation needs.
Can informal studios or collectives apply as a team?
Yes. Informal studios, collectives or small teams may apply, as long as the application clearly explains who is part of the team, what each person brings, and who would actually participate in the residency.
How will support work for teams?
Teams may apply, but the selection will confirm which specific team members are formally accepted as residents. Financial support applies only to selected residents who actively take part in the residency, not automatically to the whole studio, collective or organisation. Unless otherwise agreed in writing, each selected resident may receive the same support conditions: up to €2,000 for travel, accommodation and stay-related costs, plus a €3,000 professional fee. Passive collaborators, remote advisors or wider studio members are not covered by this support.
How will travel and accommodation costs be handled?
Placemaking Europe may reimburse travel, accommodation and stay-related costs, or choose to help find accommodation and pay for it directly. We will try to find a place that allows residents to live and work together, at a reasonable distance from the site. The final arrangement will depend on availability, budget and the needs of the selected team.
Is the €3,000 compensation a fee or a materials budget?
The €3,000 is a professional compensation fee for the residency work. It is not intended to cover materials for the installation, unless otherwise agreed in writing.
Who covers materials and production costs?
Materials, fabrication and production costs will be covered separately through the project budget, with at least €40,000 allocated for materials and production. Residents may help define, design, source or guide production, but they are not expected to pay for the installation from their fee. Placemaking Europe will also cover the necessary permits, insurance and related project costs.
Is the €3,000 an already-taxed grant?
No. The €3,000 should be understood as a professional fee, not as an already-taxed grant. Selected residents will normally invoice Placemaking Europe according to their own legal and tax situation.
Should residents add VAT/IVA to the invoice?
This depends on the resident’s legal status, country of registration and applicable tax rules. VAT/IVA, withholding, income tax, social security or equivalent obligations will be checked individually with selected residents before contracting.
Can applicants join as interns or volunteers?
For now, we will first complete the selection process for the residency positions. At a later stage, we may be able to involve interns or volunteers in specific moments of the project, depending on the needs on site, the working schedule and the capacity of the team to coordinate additional people properly. This cannot be guaranteed at application stage.
Will there be community activities during the residency?
Yes. Residents should expect some interaction with local stakeholders, families, municipal services or community representatives. The exact format will depend on the local process and the availability of participants.
Will the final proposal be fully defined by the residents?
No. Residents will help develop and adapt the proposal, but the final installation must respond to local needs, technical feasibility, safety, budget, municipal validation and maintenance conditions.
Can residents include the project in their portfolio afterwards?
Yes, residents may refer to their contribution and include the project in their portfolio, as long as confidential or unpublished information is not disclosed and credits are handled appropriately.
Can applicants receive an early selection confirmation?
Applications close on 21 June 2026, so we cannot guarantee individual selection confirmations immediately after the deadline. We aim to inform selected applicants as soon as possible, ideally by Wednesday 24 June. Applicants with urgent availability constraints should let us know, and we will do our best to take them into account, but early confirmation cannot be guaranteed
