Placemaking Days is a format developed by Placemaking Europe to bring placemaking knowledge, frameworks and practitioners into the conversations shaping cities and public space. Each edition creates opportunities for local stakeholders, professionals, communities and international guests to explore shared challenges, exchange perspectives and discover new ways of thinking about the places we share. Shaped around the specific context of each city, the format connects local realities with broader European experiences and debates.
Context
How can placemaking contribute to the conversations shaping our cities and public spaces?
Across Europe, cities face complex questions concerning the use, design, management and governance of public space. Addressing these questions requires more than technical expertise: it calls for dialogue between different disciplines, institutions, communities and ways of understanding places.
Placemaking Days creates a space for these perspectives to meet. Developed by Placemaking Europe, the format brings together practitioners, researchers, public authorities, cultural actors and local communities to explore how placemaking approaches and frameworks can inform the challenges cities face.
The model
Through talks, discussions, participatory activities and encounters with the urban environment, each edition connects professional knowledge and international experiences with local questions and perspectives. The aim is to open up conversations, encourage critical reflection and create opportunities for people to learn from one another.
Our goal
Each edition is an opportunity to explore what placemaking can contribute to a particular city, while connecting local conversations with wider European knowledge and experience. Our ambition is to strengthen the role of placemaking in the way European cities think about, develop and care for public space.
