We’re looking for 3–4 placemakers in residence for an intensive, hands-on four weeks starting July 2nd, 2026 to help us co-design and build a temporary summer climate shelter for a community that is still recovering from the impacts of the 2024 DANA floods.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
Placemaking Europe is working with a municipality in the Valencia region to transform an outdoor public space of around 1,000 m² into a temporary summer installation — safe, reversible and built with the community. The shelter will combine water play, shade, resting areas and climate comfort, and is intended especially for children, families and local residents during the hottest months of the year.
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR
We’re inviting individuals or small teams with hands-on experience in one or more of the following:
- Temporary public space design, tactical urbanism or light construction
- Nature-based solutions, landscape design, shade or climate adaptation
- Art, community engagement or participatory spatial practices
- Water play, public furniture, scenography, modular structures or accessible outdoor installations
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Selected residents will work alongside Placemaking Europe, local stakeholders, municipal services and technical partners to develop the concept, join community sessions, adapt the design to local needs, and support the production and installation process.
AVAILABILITY
You must be available to arrive in Valencia on 2nd July 2026 and commit to an intensive four-week working period throughout July.
SUPPORT
Each selected resident or team will receive:
- Up to €2,000 toward travel, accommodation and stay-related costs (reimbursed or managed directly by Placemaking Europe)
- €3,000 compensation fee for the residency work
HOW TO APPLY
