Power of Place: An Introduction to Designing Places For Life

The way we design, invest, govern and build the places we inhabit has to change. Regenerative design is moving from theory to practice.

Power of Place is a space for experienced leaders, placemakers and practitioners to dive deeply into the value-adding process of regenerative design. You will connect with peers, and engage in real-world applications of regenerative design.

If your deep wish is to create a brighter future for all life on earth.  If you long to find practical, uplifting and regenerative ways to transform the future of our planet and the places we live in. If you are frustrated with the speed and effectiveness of the efforts to create change you have encountered so far. This programme is for you.

You are invited on a journey to create vibrant, resilient places that prioritise people and planet, together with professionals from all over the world who are willing to embrace the complexity of birthing the regenerative horizon ahead of us.

If we change the places of the world, place by place by place, we arrive at a sum total of planetary health.”

Previous participants have:

  • Transform the neighbourhood of North Amsterdam through partnerships between citizens, incoming students and the local university through tourism projects.
  • Engage populations in impoverished coastal towns in marine regeneration and kelp restoration projects bringing young people into an ageing environment.
  • Create social cohesion between immigrant minorities and urban populations through urban food projects (in Turkey).
  • Create partnerships between municipalities, agriculture and tourism to transform whole landscapes from monoculture export to participatory multiuse landscapes which have touristic value and generate economic stability in the long term (in Thailand).
  • Create cultural transformation in a small city in Denmark through a programme of multi-stakeholder engagement between municipality, education, business and citizens so that citizens now have a real voice in the development of their city.
  • Create a programme to renovate and restore Soviet housing buildings in Riga (and wider Latvia) to ensure quality social housing and community experiences.
  • Transform derelict an under-utilised buildings into thriving centres for life, learning and change (in greater Barcelona)
  • Confidently use regenerative frameworks to create workshops and learning journeys for wetland restoration teams in an urban environment (Chile)
  • Transform government policy to invest in non-intensive agricultural systems (in Jersey)
  • Transitioned large land holdings towards regenerative land-use and created learning centres for ecological, social and economic transition (in Scotland)
