Placemaking Italia is a growing network that brings together people, practices, and projects working to transform public spaces across the country through collaboration and care. As part of the international Placemaking Europe network, we share a common vision: creating a more just, sustainable, and liveable world through places that people love — places that are welcoming, inclusive, and alive.
We are an open, interdisciplinary community — from citizens to practitioners — working across cities, towns, and rural areas to strengthen local life, support regeneration, and foster meaningful connections between people, places, and ecosystems.
Italy offers a unique context for placemaking. Much of the territory is shaped by small and medium-sized cities, villages, and rural landscapes, where public space plays a deep role in daily life and collective identity. For this reason, our work extends beyond large urban centers to include inner areas, small towns, and rural territories, where regenerating shared spaces can support social cohesion, wellbeing, and local resilience.
We embrace an intersectional and more-than-human perspective, recognizing that vibrant public life includes not only diverse communities but also ecosystems, plants, and animals. We believe in actively listening to marginalized voices and fostering spaces where different experiences can coexist and thrive.
Through events, projects, and shared learning, we grow a culture of placemaking in Italy and support communities in shaping the places they call home.
