Over the course of three days, participants refined a global agenda that aims to make placemaking a systemic part of urban governance, while identifying concrete steps for immediate implementation and laying the groundwork for the creation of individual local action-led agendas. We also heard reflections from all the cities on their two-year journey as part of the Cities in Placemaking programme, as well as some very exciting site visits – the Winter Lights Tour, GĂĄsebäck – a neighbourhood that is gradually transforming from an industrial area into a creative, vibrant district, Oceanhamnen – a new waterfront development on islands in the centre of Helsingborg, and much more.
Hearing the cities reflect on their journeys and how their internal approaches to placemaking have evolved over the past two years has been incredibly inspiring. It has been remarkable to witness the growth and change in their perspectives. We look forward to continuing to work with this dynamic group and are eager to build an inspiring community of practice – one that fosters ongoing exchange, shares expertise and supports each other in taking our projects forward.
A big thank you to all the cities for trusting in this process and for being so open in sharing both successes and challenges. Your honesty and willingness to learn has been invaluable. The insights and collaboration of this group will be essential as we move forward in embedding placemaking as a central element of urban governance.
