PLD Deep Dive: Co-Creating a Waterfront for All with Oceanhamnen
05/06/2025 @ 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm Online
Join us for an inspiring online session exploring Oceanhamnen — one of Sweden’s most exciting urban development projects — and discover how placemaking is shaping the future of this waterside district in Helsingborg.
Organised by the Place-Led Development team with support from Placemaking Europe, this event will spotlight the collaborative journey behind Oceanhamnen’s transformation. Once an industrial, closed-off waterfront area, it is now becoming an open, inclusive, and thriving urban district with ambitious plans for expansion.
Learn how a wide range of stakeholders — from kindergartners to seniors — have been actively involved in co-creating a place that honours its industrial heritage while embracing sustainability, community life, and social resilience.
We’re thrilled to welcome Sara Schlyter, Landscape Architect at the City of Helsingborg, as our special guest. Sara plays a key role in the development of Oceanhamnen and will share unique insights into the challenges and successes of this place-led process.
The event will be co-hosted by Clémentine Robert and Laura Pellegrinelli, members of Placemaking Europe’s Place-Led Development Working Group.
Whether you’re a placemaking practitioner, urban planner, community leader, or simply passionate about people-centered cities — this session will leave you feeling inspired by the potential of waterfront development.
Let’s explore how the past can meet the future in meaningful, place-led ways.
About the speaker:
Sara Schlyter is a landscape architect at the City of Helsingborg in Sweden. She is leading the development and design of public spaces in the new urban district of Oceanhamnen — a waterfront area offering a wide range of experiences, many of which have been created through co-creation processes. One notable example is Dockan Park with the Jungle Playground, which was awarded Landmärket 2022 for best Swedish landscape architecture of the year.
