This article is part of our Local Challenges series for Placemaking Week Europe 2025 in Reggio Emilia, where we explore five urban questions shaping the city’s future.
How can a residential corridor become a model for liveable and sustainable urban futures?
Via Premuda stretches from the historic centre into residential neighborhoods, serving as a quiet connector full of untapped potential. This final challenge focuses on linking the historic center with the city’s southern neighborhoods. This street is a key urban axis where infrastructure, neighborhood life, and daily rhythms merge. Predominantly residential and socially diverse, the area offers a powerful ground for rethinking proximity as a guiding principle for more sustainable, liveable, and community-rooted urban futures. This Urban Dive, developed as part of the European project PROXIMITIES, seeks to explore how proximity-based thinking can inspire the transformation of this important corridor.
