We kicked-off the project this February with our partners from the Netherlands, Malta, Denmark, Spain, Romania, and Bulgaria. Over the coming 2 years we will work collaboratively to understand placemaking in the partners' local contexts, identify barriers and challenges to physical activity interacting with placemaking, and co-create locally efficacious placemaking tools that can be flexibly adapted EU wide, to inspire and incorporate physical activity towards more quality and healthy daily life.
The project partners include: Placemaking Europe, BG Be Active, International Sport & Culture Association (ISCA), MOVE, Power Jump, and Deporte para la Educación y la Salud, Sport for Education and Health (DES).
The project’s overall objective is to link placemakers, such as grassroots urban designers, and grassroots sports organisations and professionals. We aim to then co-create a resource kit (PARK) that will provide tools and support in order to improve capacities of both sectors, and thus improve programs and places to facilitate physical activity in the urbanised areas.
Understand - dig into previous work, cases, tools and guides to understand the foundation of placemaking and physical activity ;
Develop Solutions - create the "Placemaking for Physical Activity Toolbox" that can be used by placemakers and sport organisations alike ;
Test - pilot the tools from the Toolbox in the respective project partner's sites to understand the viability and efficacy across settings ;
Network & Advocate - foster interaction between community sport organisations, placemakers, and government sectors both on the EU and local levels ;
Share - communicate and disseminate our finding inclusively for the wider European audience and Placemaking Europe Network.
The PARK team poses for a kick-off team picture after an inspiring day discussing project goals and how to make cities more healthy through placemaking processes fusing with physical activity.
More information to be added in the coming time - please stay tuned.
PARK has been funded with support from the European Commission, Erasmus+ .
