Thanks for all your amazing contributions!

Placemaking Europe is a leading European network that connects practitioners, academics, community leaders, market players and policy makers across the field of placemaking, dedicated to transforming spaces into vibrant places and #creatingbettercitiestogether. We work to promote placemaking principles that foster inclusive, creative, and sustainable urban environments at the eye level.

Placemaking Week Europe is an annual festival that brings together 500+ placemakers, urbanists, city officials, and community leaders from across Europe and beyond. Placemaking Week Europe is created in the spirit of collaboration and inspiration and it has proven to be a vital platform to share best practices, foster meaningful collaborations across borders, and to expe rience the host city’s places, and initiatives firsthand. We provide a friendly environment surrounded by brilliant minds.

The event takes place over 3.5 days and features keynotes, on-site and off-site workshops, plenaries, site visits and fun activities– all designed to inspire and empower participants to create better cities together. Each city provides a unique canvas for the festival, showcasing local initiatives and challenges. We prefer the event to be experiential and make use of a creative homebase for the festival and unique locations in which to host workshops, and sessions.

Past editions have been hosted in Amsterdam, Valencia, Pontevedra, Stockholm, Strasbourg and Rotterdam. This year, Placemaking Week Europe will take place in Reggio Emilia, Italy (23 – 26 September). Take a look at the past editions here: placemaking-europe.eu/pwe.

Hosting the festival provides a unique opportunity to:

  • Showcase your city’s successful placemaking projects, initiatives, and future goals.
  • Gain international recognition as a leader in urban development and community engagement.
  • Connect with a wide network of urban professionals, community leaders, policy makers, educators, and more.
  • Receive insights and feedback from experts to further enhance your city’s public space and placemaking.
  • Share your city with over 500 participants who are eager to explore, learn, and contribute to the local economy.

Demonstrated commitment to placemaking and vibrant public spaces in your city.

  • Provision of local venues to host 500+ participants in plenaries, breakout sessions and outdoor activities during 4 days. This must include one main venue with a capacity of at least 500, plus 4-8 auxiliary spaces for holding parallel sessions throughout the week.
  • Accommodation possibilities for 500+ visitors to your city.
  • Access to a number of public spaces wherein we can observe, learn, and/or create new opportunities with a placemaking approach.
  • Funding or commitment to co-fundraise the curation fee for Placemaking Europe (€90,000).
  • Enthusiasm and commitment to co-develop the programme (including site visits and city tours) together with Placemaking Europe

Interested cities are invited to submit a Letter of Interest (LOI) detailing their vision and suitability for hosting Placemaking Week Europe.

  • The LOI should include:
  • A brief overview of your city’s commitment to placemaking and public space initiatives.
  • Potential venues and locations for festival activities.
  • Key stakeholders and local partners who could be involved.
  • Any unique aspects or themes that your city can bring to the festival.

Completed applications may be submitted as a PDF or MS Word format to pwe@placemaking-europe.eu no later than DUE DATE. Questions may also be sent to Ramon Marrades at ramon@placemaking-europe.eu

We are excited and honored to have received excellent responses in the past and look forward to working with a new host city to create another memorable and impactful festivals for 2026 & 2027. By bringing Placemaking Week Europe to your city, you will become part of an ever-growing movement that transforms urban spaces into vibrant, inclusive places for all.
