The project “Reactiva Cuenca” started as a tactical urbanism intervention in Cuenca, Ecuador. The objective was to transform for a day the space that connects the old with the new city centre. It is a big staircase with resting areas big enough to be transformed into different scenarios for music, art, and games. A one day project became a recurring weekly meeting with buskers, artists, and citizens in general that wanted to enjoy Thursday nights in a different way. With is central location it was easy to make the events bigger every week having concerts, dance sessions, and performances, the movement took the name of Cuenca Cultura. What I am most proud of is that this project had an impact on the local ordinances for culture. The law was modified by the City Council based on the feedback of the people attending to these events to support artists and events in the public space.
