We are proud to welcome the city of The Hague as an official partner of Placemaking Europe!
From August 2021, Placemaking Europe collaborates with the city of The Hague developing a programme of events and milestones starting in October 2021 throughout the coming year.
In the coming years, the Municipality of The Hague will focus on placemaking as a strategy to design and co-create public spaces in the city together with its users. Together with Placemaking Europe, the city has launched a network of cities, the City Network, that is based on the shared principle to incorporate placemaking into citywide strategies in order to bring out better quality of life with and for inhabitants. The goal is to grow this network in the coming months and years, so make sure to stay tuned for exciting updates and developments along the way and if your city wishes to collaborate, let us know!
To kick off the City Network collaboration, the 'Placemaking: A Healthy City’ session with local residents will be held on October 12 in The Hague, The Netherlands. This session will host two European cities, Pontevedra, Spain and Helsingborg, Sweden, to present their unique experiences working on public space with a placemaking approach. A core focus of the event will be on how to make a healthy city together - not from the ivory tower using top down methods - but rather, collaboratively with the city's inhabitants.
Following the exploration of the approaches of Pontevedra, a car free city oriented to the human scale and climate adaptation, and Helsingborg, who inclusively brings in diverse stakeholders with the foresight for a smart and sustainable city, along with a local case study from The Hague Zuid-West on its courtyard gardens, or ‘Binnentuinen,’ will be discussed. To foster togetherness and more meaningful networks, this discussion will be carried out with an intimate group dinner in the neighbourhood. The core aim of this discussion is to explore the wishes of residents for their neighbourhood courtyard gardens; how do local residents view the future of these spaces, in which ways would they like to contribute? And how can they realise these dreams?
Due to the Covid restrictions, there is a limited number of people able to attend in person. We look forward to a fruitful evening together, and to a fitting launch of the new City Network and collaboration between Placemaking Europe and The Hague!
