This webinar is organised by the Place-Led Working Group under Placemaking Europe with special guest speaker Hans Karssenberg. Hans walks the audience through past projects that STIPO has been involved in relating to Place-Led Development, specifically working on the ZOHO neighbourhood in north Rotterdam. He addresses key challenges that allowed for priceless learning lessons to take forward into the future - understanding the value of a place before, during, and after working on it, as well as seizing tactical light and quick opportunities to grow social capital, human-scale touches, and thus, financial interest.
From his experience, he was then able to collaborate with Emilie Vlieger to form the Netherlands first area collective, Club Rhijnhuizen. The collective integrates a fair and robust organisational and financial model recognising many facets of value creation. In this cooperative, residents, real estate owners, developers, initiatives and the municipality work together to transform the area of Rhijnhuizen from a desolate eighties office zone into a mixed use living area with high quality public space. Club Rhijnhuizen is a place management organisation that accelerates this transformation in a sustainable and community driven way. In closing, the group discusses financial models and alternatives to begin such a collective. We are pleased for you to watch the recording, learn from Club Rhijnhuizen and bring it forward into your future work!
