A new placemaking project is taking place, and you are in need of:
The Problem Tree is the tool you need!
By using the Problem Tree tool, the participants get the chance to hold open conversations about their neighborhood’s problems, voice their concerns and expectations, and suggest some solutions, all while using a "tree pattern".
In order to make full use of this tool, participants should be separated into groups of 2-3 people. Beforehand, the organizer of the workshop must have prepared big sheets of paper with the name of a certain problem they think the urban area is suffering from (absence of green spaces, heavy traffic...). The participants will be handed one problem for each group. Each group will try to find the roots of the problem (causes) and try if they can have some solutions. After the identification of the causes and possible solutions, all the participants will gather in front of each problem and try to discuss what the group wrote about it. This way, they can decide what cause they think is the most relevant and which solution they can take to tackle the said problem.
This tool builds communication skills, foresight, and helps bring out causes/solutions that are not usually noticed.
