In early July 2020 the PlaceCity Symposium explored the potential of placemaking as a tool for urban regeneration. Especially, in times of COVID-19, we were asking how we can extend public spaces in need to enjoy our cities better. Does placemaking as a tool contribute towards a more caring and resilient urban future? The PlaceCity Symposium spanned two online days, June 30th from 14 – 16 CEST and July 1st from 14 -16 CEST, and an exciting "offline" explorative walk on July 2nd.
Together with international placemakers, planners, civil servants, city administrations, among others, we showcased and contextualized local placemaking projects, including PlaceCityOslo and Vienna.
The speakers of the first symposia day were:
Brigitte Felderer, Social Design, University of Applied Arts, Vienna
Brigitte Vettori, space and place Vienna
Lisa Reimitz-Wachberger, Raumpioniere Vienna
Anna Bradley, Placemaking Europe Rotterdam
Chiara Lucchini, Torino Urban Lab
Hans Karssenberg, STIPO Rotterdam, The City Makers Fund
Angelika Winkler, City of Vienna
Leo Rygnestad, City of Oslo
Marta Silva, Largo Residências Lisbon
Hajir Kheder, The Means London
Bahanur Nasya/Eutropian in Vienna and Roland Krebs/Superwien Urbanism in Vienna moderated the lively discussion.
