As Placemaking Europe, we are joining forces together with ISCA - International Sport and Culture Association and NowWeMove to celebrate the stairs and their usage on #NoElevatorsDay on April 29! #NoElevatorsDay highlights a way for people who are able to add physical activity to their day: by promoting using the stairs for daily physical activity at home.
Considering the #stayhome measures, it is important that we stay active and innovative in how we move our bodies - especially for those of us that are confined inside without access to the street or parks. For some of us, moving our bodies at home is the only option for physical activity.
Last year NED was implemented on 5 continents through more than hundreds of moments and happenings. NED happened in Georgian Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, media agency Burston, Cohn and Wolfe, physiotherapy institutes such as Clínicca Ottoboni in Brazil and the Institute for Therapy and Rehabilitation in Switzerland, as well as Sport Flanders, WHO Europe, Active Essex, Towerrunning in Mexico and Germany and in many other locations with many various partners. One of our ambassadors was also wheelchair stair-climbing ambassador Haki Doku too. So, No Elevators Day is easy to implement and carries great potential to communicate about important issues. To read more about the NED you can visit the website.
As a community, let's connect on this together and share our experiences. We motivate you to take the challenge a STEP further and bring out all the great examples of stair usage in placemaking with stories and photos using #UseTheStairs. Also share your #UseTheStairsChallenge on social media, challenge, and tag your friends and family to do it too!
