Nils is a master student of spatial planning/urban planning from Germany, who is involved in the PlaceCity-Project via the City of Vienna within his volountary work (oct.-dec. 2019). During his studies he was particularly concerned with informal urbanism. In his Master-Thesis he would like to deal with the topic of placemaking and plans to use various tools in order to bring different social groups together in the ambivalent "Nordstadt" of his residenceplace Dortmund . Also to strengthen the awareness of the "Right to the City" - no matter to which you belong. He will continue to follow the PlaceCity project closely in the future, learning from his experiences and acquiring knowledge.
Describe the main aspect of PlaceCity that you are most proud about?
PlaceCity tries to involve actors, residents and citizens beyond the normal administrative standard. The focus is on the city made by the citizen, possibly supported by informal initiatives that make a better reach possible. „Cooperation“ is the keyword. Public space as a mirror of society is becoming more and more into focus. Appropriation, the citizen become more rebellious, which is good. A modern understanding of democracy that needs to be strengthened these days, also in urban planning.
