Maria is a Viennese urban planner and is working for the municipal department urban development and planning of the City of Vienna. She was involved in the development of the sectoral thematic concept “Polycentral Vienna” and has also worked on other funded research projects in the past, in particular on the topic accessibility of public spaces.
Describe the main aspect of PlaceCity that you are most proud about?
One objective of the Viennese case study is to learn how placemaking activities can support long-term transformation processes and to make existing activities more visible for everyone. From these learnings of PlaceCity the entire city and its urban quarters can benefit.
Objective of the thematic concept “Polycentral Vienna” is to enhance and stabilize the existing polycentral urban structure of Vienna. Another key objective is to improve new centres in urban development areas. The concept is result of an intensive process together with many Viennese stakeholders and was finalized in December 2020.
