Vienna is growing and it is becoming ever more important to use free space in multiple ways. The objective is a liveable, cool and fairly shared city with socially mixed neighbourhoods and active citizens. Public space belongs to all of us and we can all enjoy, discover and shape it. The neighbourhood oases demonstrate how small free spaces around the corner or right on the doorstep can be used. The initiative is open to all Viennese and supports selected initiatives with up to € 4.000,- to implement creative ideas in the public space together with others.

During the Placemaking Pils they shared their experience on how to create more liveable public places by enabling and creating parklets. They discussed parklets as a winterproof and pandemic proof tool to create a space for encounter and creativitiy. The adressed challenges and solutions from their inspiring hands-on learnings.
Grätzeloase's talk was part of the Placemaking Pils winter edition in 2020 hosted by Nabolagshager. We had the pleasure to co-host this event with our partners from Growlab and our PlaceCity partners Superwien, PlaceCity Vienna Floridsdorf, and from Placemaking Europe as part of our PlaceCity project. Placemaking Pils is a tool developed by Nabolagshager and is part of the Placemaking Europe toolbox. Download your free manual to get started on organising your own Placemaking Pils.
