Gooitske is the founder of gooitz. Under that organization, she is working with different companies an interdisciplinary collectives for urban transformations. And making better places for people. Gooitske is fascinated by people and how they move in public space compared to the built space. And why they do or not.
In the placemaking process, I prefer to do research with various and (future) stakeholders and we look for the meaning of the place. All this in a sustainable way, with a solid basis for places for people. The last year the emphasis for me has been on really involving children in the democratic process of area development and transformations. That adults take children seriously and give them a role that not only means that they can think along when it comes to a playground or a schoolyard. Especially when it comes to a complicated task. That’s why Gooitske’s focus lately is child-friendly cities, sharing and developing tools to include kids in decision-making processes. Especially children with disabilities.
Gooitske is both technically and creatively educated and she likes to work at the intersection of technique and creativity. She has a great experience in off and online media is a real concept developer and booster for projects. She works with organizations for the transformation of public space. And in her work, there are always people involved.
Currently, she is based in Zwolle, where she actively collaborates in networks such as The City at Eye Level for Kids, Buitensporig Zwolle, local organizations, educational institutions, road safety organizations, and regional government.
Child-friendly cities, children’s participation, people-friendly cities, co-creation, on spot research, inspiration, connections in the Netherlands especially in eastern and northern parts, for the best coffee in the Netherlands at my local barista Espresso Bar Maling in Zwolle, my Frisian language.
Co-creation process, urban interventions, child-responsive planning, urban modeling and simulations for environmental impact, sustainable cities and communities (SDG-11), concept design, social design, De Genereuze Stad.
The project “Sassenstraat Allicht” started as an idea inspired by light collective Beforelight from Athens. The organization was a great source of inspiration and we translated the idea, with permission, into a situation in Zwolle and a little bit bigger. Placing more than 400 lampshades in the public space was quite a challenge, we thought. Within three weeks we had received more than enough in our temporary workshop space in the street. We hoped for 100 pimped lamp shades. There were about 400..... We had workshops with volunteers, kindergartens, nursing homes, families, artists, entrepreneurs and many others from Zwolle and beyond participated. Cool! A special song was made by a group of musicians, and the entire board up and down 400 people were at the opening to sing that song and turn on the lights.
The sassenstraat is one of the oldest shopping streets in Zwolle and the light heart of the city center. The street emotionally consists of two parts. And the entrepreneurs feel the same. With the lighting project, we ensured that the feeling of one street was achieved with the help of light.
The project would last for a maximum of six months, that is two years. It has generated a lot of traffic (+ 30% measured) in the street and it has generated a lot of media and press for the street. There is even a group of people who have started a petition to let the lampshades hang longer ..... The project was very successful, thanks to all the people who worked enthusiastically on this very cool project.
My project won the Cultuur Award Overijssel 2014! how proud can you be. With the money I’ve won, we went out for a meal with our twentie zealous nuts in one of the restaurants in the Sassentraat.
