Giles has worked in urban regeneration and placemaking for more than 20 years. Between 2002 and 2015 he was a director of The means, a consultancy that specialised in the creation and management of Business Improvement Districts (BIDs). With The means Giles worked on some 60 BID projects, including in Singapore and Albania. He also helped create the celebrated Better Bankside BID and created and managed the Vauxhall One BID. Giles is now the Executive Director of the GO! Southampton BID which seeks to enhance the quality of this famous port city on the south coast of England. Giles has encouraged his board to look to the city of Rotterdam - which has a very similar history - as an example of how Southampton could transform.
