We are happy to announce a collaboration between Placemaking Europe and The Journal of Public Space, on a dedicated section on Placemaking within the journal. In order to encourage the growth of knowledge and interest in placemaking both in academia and in practice, this collaboration was started after the invitation of the Editor in Chief Dr. Luisa Bravo during the Placemaking Week Valencia 2019.
This dedicated section called “Placemaking: theory, practice, and tools” is intended to include theoretical and practical examples that explore both how academic researchers are dealing with defining and contextualising placemaking research and how the existing theoretical knowledge can be embodied in practical projects.
Contributions to this section can address the theory of placemaking, goals, and impact, governance, and different forms and contexts of placemaking, as well as methods and tools for placemaking. Academic contributions will undergo a process of double-blind peer review. Practice-based articles, reflecting projects on the ground and sourced from practitioners, will undergo an editorial review and on-ground verification, upon which they will be published as viewpoints. As an example of a practice-based contribution, we share an earlier collaboration between leaders of Placemaking Europe and the journal: Placemaking in the European Context - the movement is here to stay.
We would be happy to invite you to contribute to the section Placemaking: theory, practice, and tools” by sending us your abstracts or papers. For more information on the dedicated section, such as content-specific focus, procedures etc., please check the website, or contact the section editors: Dr. Beitske Boonstra and Nazaket Azimli, MSc.
We are planning to publish the first review paper on the definition and manifestations of placemaking in Europe in Fall 2021 and might work on a special issue after that. At this stage, we would like to ask you to send the abstracts of your contributions to the section editors Dr. Beitske Boonstra and Nazaket Azimli, MSc.
