AM is one of the largest project developers in the Netherlands with a focus on integrated area development. One of AM’s core values is “Live Happily” (gelukkig leven). AM believes it is important to add social value to a residential area.
With over 20 years of experience in project development, I am now fully dedicated to set up placemaking within AM. I make sure that AM does not just deliver houses, but also creates a nice neighbourhood. I want to make that difference in all conceivable aspects. I ensure that AM is visible from the start of the development and approachable for all relevant stakeholders, such as local residents and the municipality. In this way we create support and jointly determine the DNA of the development.

AM is strong in developing new concepts in response to a social question. For example, we have created different housing concepts in response to loneliness and an aging population (friends concept and city veterans). We pay a lot of attention to sustainability and climate adaptation, which we can integrate nicely into our area developments. And we ensure that the new neighborhood that we develop integrates well with the existing area, because we pay attention to the human dimension. We are good in making something out of nothing, such as starting a whole new development, but we can also revitalize an existing neighborhood.
I am very proud of our inner-city mixed-use project Bajeskwartier, a former prison in Amsterdam. We are developing a car-free neighborhood with approximately 1350 homes: starter homes, exclusive penthouses and workplaces, catering industry, culture and social facilities (approximately 20,000 m2 of commercial real estate). It will be a green residential area with about 70 gardens, courtyards and water features. The energy supply needed to heat and cool the buildings comes from thermal sources in the soil and organic waste from the neighborhood is converted into electricity for the area. The more than 80 stakeholders are proud ambassadors and the projectteam is engaged and enthusiastic.
