Tak for Maten is a rooftop garden in central Oslo that I, along with two other students at the time, built and developed into a multifunctional exploration arena. The space was unused prior to our work, and now hosts a rooftop garden with vegetables, bees and chickens. We have designed circular economy into many aspects of the rooftop, using the resources in our local area. Through my development of a multifunctional business model, the rooftop provides employment to local, minority youth while gaining income from selling products they create, giving paid tours and functioning as an event space for rent. We are still exploring the potential business models, but seeing a space become a thriving community asset that inspires others to make cities more green and social.
