An architectural collective Studio Calas had the opportunity to reflect the state-imposed quarantine from an urban perspective, turning these thoughts into a self-published book form. Therefore, they used sketches as critical tools, text as a method of interaction, and the book as a technique of action. Out of this approach emerged ‘Learning from Quarantine - 40 Historical Events during the COVID-19 lockdown and their urban consequences* for the future’.
COVID-19 has hit us hard and affected our well-protected ‚normality‘. This little book wants to look ahead. For this purpose, news that went around the world during the lockdown is used as a starting point for so-called ‚learnings‘. Conclusions that indicate a need for action and suggest the leaving of our comfort zone.
40 News with three conclusions each forms a source-based, graphical, and textual narrative. The rose-colored glasses are put away and thoughtful action is recognized as an urgent necessity. The farewell to ‚normality‘ will be difficult.
