SUMMARY:Making Place! Webinar Mini-Series – Inclusive Placemaking Across EuropeanMaking Place! Webinar series
DESCRIPTION:Dates: July 1 and 2\, 2026Time: 16:00–17:10 CET each dayFormat: Online (Zoom\, registration required) \n\n\n\nDescription: \n\n\n\nWhat does it take to make urban spaces genuinely inclusive? And what are European cities actually learning on the ground? \n\n\n\nMaking Place! is a two-part webinar series sharing initial results and reflections from InclusiveCity’s Urban Living Labs in Vienna\, Budapest\, Rotterdam\, and Oslo — four cities working on inclusive placemaking in their own contexts\, with their own communities\, and facing their own set of challenges. \n\n\n\nEach session is structured as a guided conversation across four questions\, bringing together practitioners and researchers to share what’s working\, what isn’t\, and what it’s actually like on the ground. \n\n\n\nSession 1 — July 1st\, 16:00–17:10 CET  \n\n\n\nBelonging\, Care\, and Experimentation in Urban Blue and Green Spaces \n\n\n\nHow can blue and green public spaces move beyond functional definitions toward environments that are genuinely shared? From Rotterdam’s explorations of belonging and youth-led co-creation\, to Vienna’s reframing of water access around everyday relationship rather than swimming ability\, this session explores what it actually takes to shift from using a space to caring for it. Through the experiences of both cities\, the session will touch on accessibility and inclusion\, the need for institutional support and its correlated risks\, and how small gestures can create belonging and foster interdependence and deepen our relationship with the built environment. \n\n\n\nSession 2 — July 2nd\, 16:00–17:10 CET \n\n\n\nBeyond Good Intentions: Coordinating Policy\, People\, and Place \n\n\n\nInclusive urban ambitions are one thing\, but translating them into coordinated action at the neighborhood scale is another. Drawing on reflections from the Budapest and Oslo Urban Living Labs\, this webinar examines the barriers that often stand in the way – from institutional silos and uneven political commitment to persistent communication gaps between vulnerable groups and the institutions meant to support them. Through the experiences of both cities\, the session will reflect on safety\, experimentation\, public space co-governance\, and the conditions for meaningful participation. It will also highlight key lessons on turning local knowledge into long-term action\, strengthening cooperation across different sectors and actors\, sustaining dialogue beyond project approval\, and building the trust and social infrastructure needed for more inclusive neighborhoods. \n\n\n\nRegister here to receive the Zoom link for both sessions. \n\n\n\nMaking Place! is part of WP8 of the InclusiveCity EU project\, focused on exchange and knowledge transfer across Urban Living Labs. \n\n\n\nYou can find out more about the Inclusive City project by following the official LinkedIn and Instagram accounts.
