Welcome to the digital base of Placemaking Europe. We are a network of placemakers in Europe and the consortium members PlaceCity. On this website we share useful insights, publications, tools, manuals and events. Join us to be a part of this movement.
Public space quality is the backbone to a sustainable city. To ensure quality in the public realm, cities need great streets supported by places that intuitively captivate users to want to stay longer, human scale inspired by interaction between buildings and streets, ownership by users, placemaking, good plinths, and a person-centered approach based on user experience.
Placemaking is a strategy for co-creation that focuses on economic and social well-being, as well as quality of life.
Placemaking Europe is the not-for-profit network of European Placemakers. You can find their profiles, activities, publications and projects here. The leaders and members of the network share here also their stories and tools. The aim is to empower European communities to use Placemaking strategies in their built environment.
Placemaking goes in Europe through a new phase, called PlaceCity. Placemaking Europe is collecting placemaking tools from all around Europe and beyond. These tools are now categorized and described for everyone’s use. PlaceCity partners, as well as members of the network, are adding further tools and share their experience with us. The stories behind the tools give a deeper understanding. The tool collection is tested by PlaceCity partners in the cities Oslo and Vienna with local stakeholders.
Every year Placemaking Europe organizes the Placemaking Week Europe in cooperation with a city. The members of the network write books, organize regional or thematic gatherings, participate in calls, give trainings and lectures. The agenda gives you an overview.
We build the network, organize meetings, collect placemaking tools and stories. We are practitioners, work on our own projects, help others where needed. We write and publish books and articles. We set the tone in the debate on placemaking and the city at eye level.
The website of Placemaking Europe is open to use for all.
With the help of sponsors we do a better job realizing our goals.
